Chicago Senior citizen shoots 12yr old boy...

I'm not mad at Ms. Matthews for defending her livelihood... I'm upset with the community--that this senior citizen had to "go there," in order to see some justice done.  Where are the men in the community who stand up for folk like Ms. Matthews.  There are to many people like her who are sick and tired of being harrassed and embarrassed by the actions of unruly youth and adults in our community!  And they're not going to continue to stand there and just take it!  We're tired of the dope dealing, gun play, and violence that has overtaken our community and City!  This must end now! Or else we will see a Nat'l Guard on the streets laying down martial law...and that will be complete choas!  Elderly woman shoots...

The Bishop Eddie Long scandal ... Only God can Judge him!

The scandal of Bishop Eddie Long has brought up many questions, opinions, and thoughts that have invovked heated debates all over the Black and religious community.  Those in leadership and especially those whom have a high-profile tend to be looked upon closely through a microscope evenmore.  Whether he is wrongfully accused or not, it something that has to be addressed but addressed with caution and clarity.  We must deal with it truthfully and honestly with unabashed emotions if at all possible.  Moreover, we must not address this situation lightly just because Bishop Long is prominent to the community.  Nonetheless, I say this with total deference to the victims and families, for the pain and emotion(s) that they have to endure, is not to be marginalized.

As critics, our critical examination has to be thorough in it's assessment and not juxtapose critical examination for contempt that is derogatory and disrespectful despite how we may deeply feel regarding the matter.  As inexcuseable as these accusations may be, we must allow for things to take there proper course.  In having said that, I'd like to offer some of the dialog that has been taking place between myself and others pertaining to this matter.  I leave you with these words... ...“He who experiences the unity of life sees his own Self in all beings, and all beings in his own Self, and looks on everything with an impartial eye.” -Budda

The Journey of Preparation: "I've been there and done that before..."

The experiences, trials or tests in life we as human beings face help us through the journey at hand.  They are a fact of life that we must learn from and endure.   They provide us with a blueprint that we can study over and over again that prepare us for what may come.  In addition, we all have moments when the blueprint feels like "deja vu."  We say things like, "I've been there and done that before" or "it's no big deal cause stuff happens,"  or "there's nothing new under the sun."  However true, we must never allow life's experiences, trials, or tests make us become immune and dull individuals just because "stuff happens.'"  Why? Because, "It is dangerous to become settled and complacent in our present level of experience."  We must always have a keen sense when it comes to the experiences of life we face because they are on-going.

Striving for a life of high moral standard and continual growth requires rigorous preparation and them some.  The spritiual journey which is an intricate part of the overall journey teaches us to never become settled, complacent, or dull with our present level of experience and development in life.  It forces us to become fully aware that life's experiences, tests or trials prepare us continualy inspite of the fact.  It doesn't allow the notion of "just because we have been through some things," keep us from reaching higher levels of continual growth.  In other words, "they keep us on our toes!'"

The spiritual journey requires preparation and more preparation because, those who choose to serve God and live righteously, know that being under complete subjection to the Almighty is the order of the day here.  And it is a position that we can't escape!  Well, I suppose we can escape if we choose to, and we often do throughout the process because of our humanness.  Nonetheless, the fact that one's spiritual journey will require preparation and more preparation is wholeheartedly true because ultimately, our experiences, trials, or test will automatically hold us under complete subjection.  Because they are the keys that prepare us rigorously, that produce continual growth, which also give us a keen sense beforehand that we must endure the experiences, trials, or tests to the end and fight the good fight! (2 Tim 4:7-8)

God puts this charge before us and, we know that our spiritual journey is on-going because God is using us as He pleases.  He is the "best Knower", and He understands our nature fully, He knows what we are capable of through Him and without Him (Holy Quran 67:14).  When we allow Him to be the Head of our exsitence, our life's experiences, trials, or tests will never be in vain because we are in total submission to Him and His Christ.  We never dismiss His authority over us because He is Lord!  Through our experiences regardless if they have been painful, positive, or negative--God always gets the Glory!  Because, He substains us in advance with His mercy, grace and peace always!  For He knows the journey that is to prepare us... so continue to Fight the Good Fight and See It Through so you can receive your Crown!  For God is Love!

Scriptural and Literary Support:

Ps 1:6 (NIV)  For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Ps 25:8,12 (NIV)  Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways... Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.  Ps 32:8 (NIV) I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.  Ps 37:39-40(NIV) But the salvation of the [consistently] righteous is of the Lord; He is their Refuge and secure Stronghold in the time of trouble.  And the Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they trust and take refuge in Him.  Ps 73:24 (NIV) You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.

Prov 15:3,9 (NIV) 3 The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.  The LORD detests the way of the wicked but he loves those who pursue righteousness.

1 Nah 1:7 (AMP) 7The Lord is good, a Strength and Stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows (recognizes, has knowledge of, and understands) those who take refuge and trust in Him.

1 Cor 8:1-3 (NIV) ...We know that we all possess knowledge.  Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. 3But the man who loves God is known by God.  1 Cor 9:25 (NIV) 25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

1 Tim 6:11-16 (NIV) 11But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.

2 Tim 2:21 (NIV) 21If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.  2 Tim 3:10-17 (NIV) 10You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.  2 Tim 4:7 (NIV) 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

James 1:2-4, 12 (NIV)  2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  12Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Holy Quran (2:12) The life of this world is made to seem fair to those who disbelieve, and they mock those who believe, and those who guard (against evil) shall be above them on the day of resurrection; and Allah gives means of subsistence to whom he pleaseswithout measure.  Holy Quran (2:142) The fools among the people will say: What has turned them from their qiblah (Kabba) which they had? Say: The East and the West belong only to Allah; He guides whom He likes to the right path.  Holy Quran (2:231) ...and do not take Allah's communications for a mockery, and remember the favor of Allah upon you, and that which He has revealed to you of the Book and the Wisdom, admonishing you thereby; and be careful (of your duty to) Allah, and know that Allah is the Knower of all things.

Holy Quran (4:70) This is grace from Allah (God), and sufficient is Allah (God) as the Knower.  Holy Quran (4:172)The Messiah (Isa/Jesus) does by no means disdain that he should be a servant of Allah (God), nor do the angels who are near to Him, and whoever disdains His service and is proud, He will gather them all together to Himself.

Holy Quran (5:72)  Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely Allah (God), He is the Messiah, son of Marium; and the Messiah said: O Children of Israel! serve Allah (God), my Lord and your Lord. Surely whoever associates (others) with Allah (God), then Allah (God) has forbidden to him the garden, and his abode is the fire; and there shall be no helpers for the unjust.  Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely Allah (God) is the third (person) of the three; and there is no god but the one God, and if they desist not from what they say, a painful chastisement shall befall those among them who disbelieve.

Holy Quran (67:14) Does He not know, Who created? And He is the Knower of the subtleties, the Aware.

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved. -Helen Keller

The words printed here are concepts. You must go through the experiences. -St. Augustine

A man is born alone and dies alone; and he experiences the good and bad consequences of his karma alone; and he goes alone to hell or the Supreme abode. -Chanakya

Life is a series of experiences, each of which makes us bigger, even though it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward. -Henry Ford

     The most instructive experiences are those of everyday life... -Nietzsche

Trials teach us what we are; they dig up the soil, and let us see what we are made of; they just turn up some of the ill weeds on to the surface. -C.H. Spurgeon

When you're up against a trouble,
Meet it squarely, face to face;
Lift your chin and set your shoulders,
Plant your feet and take a brace.
When it's vain to try to dodge it,
Do the best that you can do;
You may fail, but you may conquer,
See it through!

Black may be the clouds about you
And your future may seem grim,
But don't let your nerve desert you;
Keep yourself in fighting trim.
If the worst is bound to happen,
Spite of all that you can do,
Running from it will not save you,
See it through!

Even hope may seem but futile,
When with troubles you're beset,
But remember you are facing
Just what other men have met.
You may fail, but fall still fighting;
Don't give up, whate'er you do;
Eyes front, head high to the finish.
See it through! -Edgar A. Guest

TGIF!!! The path we all must take...

The path of life from the time we are born and until the time we die--is a very interesting quest that we all will walk regardless of race, creed, color or culture.  Throughout life we will learn many lessons from the places, people, and things that we encounter along the way that help influence that path(s) we choose to take, whether positive or negative.  Moreover, the path(s) we choose for better or for worst are usually correlated to how we think, feel, or act in our everyday life.  Futhermore, the path(s) we choose may cause conflict between those who care for us such as our family and friends--especially when those path(s) oppose how we were brought up or taught.  Essentially, everyone around us may not agree with how we choose to live our lives.  And in some case their disagreement may be rightfully so but, as individuals we are entitled to make our own choices and decisions. Nonetheless, for better or for worst the path(s) we choose and there consequences are reflections of one another.  So, one must careful of the path(s) he or she walks upon!

In the life of a God fearing person regardless of what monotheistic religion one studies or practices.  The duty of every believer of Almighty God is to walk a path of righteousness that is morally upright in accordance to God's law and commandments.  Moreover when one lives a life that adhears to the moral principles of God their life is fullfilled in accordance to God's promise.  However, when we choose not to adhear to God's moral principles, we ultimately choose a life of pain and suffering.

Now, one might say but "we'll go through pain or suffering whether we choose to live upright or not." True indeed we all do!  But for those who choose to live the life of righteousness--the pain and suffering that life tends to bring will be less detrimental.  Less detrimental from the stand point that God will always deliever and restore us with His grace, mercy and peace.  In which our lives then become, true proof that God loves those who truly believe in Him.  This is why we sing songs like "I've Got a Testimony" and "Helen's Testimony aka Praying Grandmother," because they are the living proof that God indeed does deliever us from our pain and suffering.

Choosing to walk a righteous path may cause you to seem peculiar in the eye's of some but do understand that this comes with the territory.  When we look at those whom have lived a life based on high moral standards throughout history--they all have been seen as strange or odd in some type of way and the world opposed them vehemently in every aspect of their walk.  But they kept on going; living a life of high moral principle(s) inspite of the pain and suffering they endured.  This was reflective in the eyes and spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. when he gave his last speech in Memphis, TN, "I've been to the Mountaintop."  In doing God's Will, we need not worry because although everyone in your life may not understand or support the path you walk, do know that God does!  Your journey is not for man to understand for it is between you and God! Keep on rising to the top! God's gotcha!

The little choices we must make
Will chart the course of life we take;
We either choose the path of light,
Or wander off in darkest night. —D. De Haan

Scriptural and Literary Support:

What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. -Deuteronomy 4:7-9 (NIV).  And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness. -Deuteronomy 6:25 (NIV)

The LORD rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness. The LORD delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the LORD's anointed. -1 Samuel 26:23 (NIV)

The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in his sight. -2 Samuel 22:25 (NIV)

What pleasure would it give the Almighty if you were righteous? What would he gain if your ways were blameless? -Job 22:3 (NIV).  I will maintain my righteousness and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live. -Job 27:6 (NIV)

For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. -Psalm 1:6 (NIV). The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.He makes me lie down in green pastures he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.  You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. -Psalm 23 (NIV).  Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart! -Psalm 32:11 (NIV).  The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. -Psalm 33: 5 (NIV) .  The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry; -Psalm 34:15 (NIV).  The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. -Psalm 34:17 (NIV).  A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all; -Psalm 34:19 (NIV).  The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made. -Psalm 145:17 (NIV).  The LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. -Psalm 146:8 (NIV)

Thus you will walk in the ways of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous. -Proverbs 2:20 (NIV). Ill-gotten treasures are of no value, but righteousness delivers from death. -Proverbs 10:2 (NIV). The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry but he thwarts the craving of the wicked...Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. -Proverbs 10:3,6 (NIV). The way of the LORD is a refuge for the righteous, but it is the ruin of those who do evil. The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land. -Proverbs 10: 29-30 (NIV). Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires. The righteous man is rescued from trouble, and it comes on the wicked instead. -Proverbs 11:4,6,8 (NIV)

So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God's hands, but no man knows whether love or hate awaits him. All share a common destiny—the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good man, so with the sinner; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them. This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead. -Ecclesiastes  9;1-3 (NIV)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. -Matthew 5:6 (NIV). Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. -Matthew 5:10 (NIV). This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous -Matthew 13:49 (NIV)

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. -Romans 1:17,32 (NIV). This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, -Romans 3:22-23 (NIV). "because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." -Romans 8:7 (21KJV)

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. -James 4:4 (21KJV)

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." -1 Peter 3:12 (NIV)

And convey good news to those who believe and do good deeds, that they shall have gardens in which rivers flow; whenever they shall be given a portion of the fruit thereof, they shall say: This is what was given to us before; and they shall be given the like of it, and they shall have pure mates in them, and in them, they shall abide. -Holy Qur'an 2:25

Indeed there have been examples before you; therefore travel in the earth and see what was the end of the rejecters. This is a clear statement for men, and a guidance and an admonition to those who guard (against evil). And be not infirm, and be not grieving, and you shall have the upper hand if you are believers. -Holy Qur'an (3:137-139). But as to those who are careful of (their duty to) their Lord, they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding in them; an entertainment from their Lord, and that which is with Allah is best for the righteous. -Holy Qur'an (3:198)

"And verily, this is My straight path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His path". Holy Qur'an 6:153

And He answers those who believe and do good deeds, and gives them more out of His grace; and (as for) the unbelievers, they shall have a severe punishment. -Holy Qur'an 42:26

And when Isa (Jesus) came with clear arguments he said: I have come to you indeed with wisdom, and that I may make clear to you part of what you differ in; so be careful of (your duty to) Allah and obey me: -Holy Qur'an 43:63

The essence of the Power of prayer... That secret place!

That secret place... Prayer is the one unavoidable act that one practices--that is a testament to one's belief in God Almighty.  In general as children we learned that prayer was a way for us to ask God for our most basic desires.  Such as praying over our food, thanking God for mommy and daddy, and asking for that new bike. However, as we grow in our walk of faith, we learn to become less basic and more specific in our request. Moreover, the concept of prayer is an interesting phenomenon because it provides us with an outlet to consult God and make manifest our inner most desires. For the seasoned believer, prayer becomes less focused on one's own satisfaction. But more focused on showing total reverence and building an unbreakable bond with God. Prayer indeed allows us to be reverently willing (To show awe, respect and often love; acting or ready to act gladly; eagerly compliant: "The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak" -Matt 26:41) towards God for providing us with (To furnish; supply. To supply with subsistence) and giving (blessing) us our ample desires. And through its outcome we are able to be living witnesses of the effect (power) it has on our lives!

Establishing a bond (a uniting force or tie, a link; A duty, promise, or other obligation by which one is bound; a fellowship) through prayer is indeed a wonderful friendship to have with the Almighty! The latter statement reminds me of the old time gospel hit "What a friend we have in Jesus!'" Through prayer, Jesus (GPBUH) displayed the love, respect and unbreakable link he built with God, that I speak of above, for he sought God for his every need and want. Moreover, Jesus (GPBUH) shows us how to perfectly establish a wonderful friendship with the Father by how he taught us to pray. He not only prayed out in the open but he often prayed and met God in that secret place. Prayer for Christ was more about "coming into perfect fellowship and oneness with God," than it was about anything else he did. And that's how it should be for us. We must constantly strive to seek God's face for our inner most needs and desires. For the faith walk lies in one's heart and not on the surface for man to say "Job well done my servant" but for God to say "Job well done my servant!'" -Glory be to God!

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." -John 15:5-7

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
-James 4:10 NKJV

And seek assistance through patience and prayer, and most surely it is a hard thing except for the humble ones, Who know that they shall meet their Lord and that they shall return to Him. O children of Israel! call to mind My favor which I bestowed on you and that I made you excel the nations (Holy Qur'an 2:45-47). The life of this world is made to seem fair to those who disbelieve, and they mock those who believe, and those who guard (against evil) shall be above them on the day of resurrection; and Allah gives means of subsistence to whom he pleases without measure. -Holy Qur'an 2:212

And that you should keep up prayer and be careful of (your duty to) Him; and He it is to Whom you shall be gathered. -Holy Qur'an 6:72

Surely I am Allah, there is no god but I, therefore serve Me and keep up prayer for My remembrance: -Holy Qur'an 20:14

Successful indeed are the believers, Who are humble in their prayers, And who keep aloof from what is vain, And who are givers of poor-rate, -Holy Qur'an 23:1-4

Say: Surely my Lord amplifies the means of subsistence for whom He pleases and straightens (for whom He pleases), but most men do not know. Say: Surely my Lord amplifies the means of subsistence for whom He pleases of His servants and straightens (them) for whom (He pleases), and whatever thing you spend, He exceeds It in reward, and He is the best of Sustainers. -Holy Qur'an 34:36,39

(As for) those who fear their Lord in secret, they shall surely have forgiveness and a great reward. -Holy Qur'an 67:12

The primary thought in the area of religion is— keep your eyes on God, not on people. Your motivation should not be the desire to be known as a praying person. Find an inner room in which to pray where no one even knows you are praying, shut the door, and talk to God in secret. Have no motivation other than to know your Father in heaven. It is impossible to carry on your life as a disciple without definite times of secret prayer.

Prayer is not simply getting things from God— that is only the most elementary kind of prayer. Prayer is coming into perfect fellowship and oneness with God.

We pray religious nonsense without even involving our will, and then we say that God did not answer— but in reality we have never asked for anything. Jesus said, “. . . you will ask what you desire. . .” -Excerpt(s) from My Utmost For Highest (Online) Sept 16th, 2010 by Oswald Chambers

Tested Tuesday! You may not fully "get it," but He does...

In life we all go through many situations that test us and we simply just don't understand why! Whether it's trying to figure out a hard math equation, a loved one who is hard-headed, or why am I broke can all be quite confusing to us--especially when we try to figure everything out using our mind's eye! Moreover, as sure as life goes on, mankind will always be in a bit of confusion concerning the intricacies of life. As wise folks put it "just keep on living and in due time you'll understand why." Jezzzzz, is it that simple?

We always hear stories about someone trying to "understand the ways of the world," or "why things happen the way they do." While trying to figure out life's perplexities may be quite interesting for some, it can be quite confusing to others and drives them up a wall! However, the fact that life will always present difficulties that may confuse us and make us annoyed doesn't mean that we should concede to her challenges. I believe in the concept of "seeing the glass half full," no matter if I understand all of my concerns or not. The optimistic view of expecting the best is something that gives us hope in the face of the test. At the end of the day, especially in the present, we all need a little hope to cling on to!

I had an old football coach, who always used the acronymn K.I.S.S which means "Keep It Simple Stupid." K.I.S.S would always leave me laughing with the look of 'duh,' on my face because I finally realized that I didn't know or have an answer for everything! The realization of not having it all figured out for many can be quite humbling to say the least. However, thinking about it from a spiritual perspective and knowing that there are things in life I tend to just not understand, I to turn to prayer and meditation. Prayer and meditation bring a "calming simplicity" (steadfastness/faithfulness) to the problems that leave me preplexed. They cause me to soley rely on (acknowledge entirely) and obey God's presence in the matter. "In the face of our difficulties, Allah says to us in the Qur'an, “Surely I'm going to try you with something of fear and hunger and loss of property, and loss of life, and diminution of fruit. But give good news to those who are patient and steadfast under trial.”

"Simplicity is the secret to seeing things clearly. A saint does not think clearly until a long time passes, but a saint ought to see clearly without any difficulty. You cannot think through spiritual confusion to make things clear; to make things clear, you must obey. In intellectual matters you can think things out, but in spiritual matters you will only think yourself into further wandering thoughts and more confusion." I often think of my Grandma Lyke and how she would always quote the Prayer of Serenity. What that particular prayer does is acknowledge Almighty God as the God our of hope, strength, comfort and peace no matter what the challenge may be. And that, He provides us with a "calming simplicity," which alleviates our confusion of the matter because it shows we're being firmly loyal and totally obedient to Him. To sum it up, "spiritual confusion can only be conquered through obedience to Almighty God!" You may not fully "get it," but He does! Continue to press for the mark! -God Bless

Create in me a clean heart, O God,And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
-Psalm 51:10 NKJV

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. -Proverbs 3:5-7 NKJV

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.  -1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV).  For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. -1 Corinthians 14:33 NKJV

O you who believe! be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, that you may be successful. -Holy Quran 3:200

Recite that which has been revealed to you of the Book and keep up prayer; surely prayer keeps (one) away from indecency and evil, and certainly the remembrance of Allah is the greatest, and Allah knows what you do. -Holy Quran 29:45

Peace: a word from a Merciful Lord. -Holy Quran 36:58

Did I not charge you, O children of Adam ! that you should not serve the Shaitan (Satan)? Surely he is your open enemy, and that you should serve Me; this is the right way. And certainly he led astray numerous people from among you. What! could you not then understand? -Holy Quran 36:60-62

Excepts from Arguments or Obedience: My Utmost for His Highest (Online Ed): Sept 14; Oswald Chambers: Bring all your arguments and . . . every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ regarding the matter, and everything will become as clear as daylight to you. (see 2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV);

Your reasoning capacity will come later, but reasoning is not how we see. We see like children, and when we try to be wise we see nothing (see Matthew 11:25 NKJV);

As soon as we obey, we have discernment. This is humiliating, because when we are confused we know that the reason lies in the state of our mind. But when our natural power of sight is devoted and submitted in obedience to the Holy Spirit, it becomes the very power by which we perceive God’s will, and our entire life is kept in simplicity.

Excerpt from address to CAMM Sept 2, 2010; Minister Louis Farrakhan:
"In the face of our difficulties, Allah says to us in the Qur'an, “Surely I'm going to try you with something of fear and hunger and loss of property, and loss of life, and diminution of fruit. But give good news to those who are patient and steadfast under trial.”

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Black History: Is the history of our struggle still being told?

Has anyone notice that many our youth have no clue of or interest in our HISTORY? Do we still pass down "stony the road we trod" to our children? Or has the "dumb downed" nature of the world we live in today caused us to forget "from whence we came?'" You tell me? In many instances, we're not reading and learning as a family anymore so our history is not being past down from generation to generation. We forget where we've come from which means we don't know where we are at and we don't know where we are going!

Special Sunday! "24/7/365 "Who ya wit?'"

Sunday is usually the day many attend worship services in the various monothesitic religious faiths. Sunday fellowship is a great way to share common beliefs, interests, or experiences with one another.  For many of us, attending Sunday worship services is a way for us to release the stressors of the week prior and get ready for the week ahead.  For some it's the singing of the choir, for other's it's the preaching of the preacher or the fellowship with other members.  Whatever the reason you attend Sunday service--most would agree that attending Sunday service brings them joy and satisfaction.

Sunday service also gives the believer an awesome reminder--in the words of the late Bernie Mac, when he asks "Who ya wit?'"  And the crowd says Bernie Mac!  Let's switch it around "Who ya wit," and we say "God!.'"  The idea that God is with us twenty-four hours, seven days a week for three hundred and sixty-five days a year is an awesome reminder!  It not only provides us with joy and satisfaction on Sunday, but provides us with joy and satisfaction daily, in knowing that God is with us always!  It also lets us know, although it is good for us to attend Sunday service that we must carry God with us everyday.  We can't be the type of believers "that are saints on Sunday but act hellish on the other days of the week."  When we carry God with us daily--we then become reflections of His presence in our lives.  Whether you attend Sunday service regularly or not, you must always be aware of your duty to God and know that He is there with us every step of the way.  Hence the poem "Footprints in the Sand."

Furthermore, the "House (Spirit or Kingdom) of God is within in you!'" (1 Cor 3:16, Luke 17:21).  We must never loose sight of that statement because we dutifully attend temple, church, or mosque.  "True circumcision is something that happens deep in your heart, not something done to your body.  And besides, you should want praise from God and not from humans." (Romans 2:29).  God dwells in the heart of a believer for a reason and that is we must never forget that, "The entire human race was created to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever."  "For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything" and we must honor Him as such (Hebrews 3:4).  "Behold, how good and how plesant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity," in the House of the Lord (Psalm 133:1).  In closing, to put in modern hip-hop terms "God is down with us 24/7/365, so don't trip, God's gotcha!'"

Scriptural & Literary Support:

Psalm 133:1 (21KJV) -Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.

Romans 2:29 (CEV) -To be a real Jew you must obey the Law. True circumcision is something that happens deep in your heart, not something done to your body. And besides, you should want praise from God and not from humans.

Hebrews 3:4-6 (NIV) -For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.  Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's house, testifying to what would be said in the future.  But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.

1 Cor 3:16 (CEV) -All of you surely know that you are God's temple and that his Spirit lives in you. 1 Cor 6:19 (CEV) -You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own. 2 Cor 16:6 (CEV) -Do idols belong in the temple of God? We are the temple of the living God, as God himself says, "I will live with these people and walk among them.  I will be their God, and they will be my people."

Luke 17:21 (CEV) -There is no use saying, `Look! Here it is' or `Look! There it is.' God's kingdom is here with you."

Al Quran 3:8,29 -Our Lord! make not our hearts to deviate after Thou hast guided us aright, and grant us from Thee mercy; surely Thou art the most liberal Giver...  Say: Whether you hide what is in your hearts or manifest it, Allah knows it, and He knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and Allah has power over all things.

Al Quran 16:2 - Say: The Holy spirit has revealed it from your Lord with the truth, that it may establish those who believe and as a guidance and good news for those who submit.

Al Quran 72:14-18 -And that some of us are those who submit, and some of us are the deviators; so whoever submits, these aim at the right way:  And as to the deviators, they are fuel of hell:  And that if they should keep to the (right) way, We would certainly give them to drink of abundant water, So that We might try them with respect to it; and whoever turns aside from the reminder of his Lord, He will make him enter into an afflicting chastisement: And that the mosques are Allah's, therefore call not upon any one with Allah:

Sensational Saturday! 9/11/2010

Sensational Saturday! Although 9/11 brings us back to that dreadful tragedy, I thank God for life today and I ask him to bless us all! We are in time of spiritual warfare... "against the rulers of darkness of this world and wickedness in high places." So, stand and put on the whole armour of God! -God Bless!

Ephesians 6:10-20 (New King James Version)

The Whole Armor of God

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Fulfilled Friday! Are you drinking from the right cup?

The world we live in today measures success by how much money we have in the bank and what that money can buy. We tend to see those with riches as very successful and having really "made it," in life. However, the things that the world tells us that satisfies us can be misleading. Make no mistake, I am not saying that obtaining riches are wrong. But the spirit in which one has whether rich or poor ultimately determines if one is truly fulfilled. Fulfilled not with the worlds definition of what it means to be fulfilled successfully. But fulfilled with what it means to be fulfilled in God's success! Nonetheless, the ephemeral possessions this world suggests satisfies us, hardly measure up to what God provides us with.

What does God provide us with? He puts into us as much as our hearts are open to receive, He supplies and provides our every need to the fullest extent which satisfies us thoroughly with His joy and never ending love. WOW! "What an awesome God we serve!'" Moreover, success in God makes us so complete that it allows us to be a witness to others about His grace, mercy, and peace which are gifts He gives us. The extension of those gifts is The Messiah also known as Jesus (PBUH) and the Holy Spirit. Jesus said "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly (full)." Knowing that allows us to "be all that we can be" in God because we submit to do His will and are assured that His promise is to be fulfilled!

In closing, we have to continue being conditioned and trained on "God's training ground," because the cup of success that He gives us is overflowing beyond measure. That's why we have to continually "Show thyself approved," of the satisfaction that He offers us. We must never allow this world to offer us a cup that is filled with the satisfaction of fleeting success. But always allow grace, mercy and peace to be with us "from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ...," along with the "Fruits of the Spirit," to fulfill us throughout all of our days on the earth. -To God be the Glory!

Some athletes just don't get it!!!

What in the world is going on in the mind of All-Pro DL Albert Haynesworth? From not showing up to off-season workouts to not coming in shape to training camp to not playing up to his ability to possible trade rumors, after signing that big $100 million dollar contract--I ask myself what is this guy taking that has him totally off balance? As a man he has a responsibility to represent himself and his family in the best manner. And not because he's being paid the "big bucks," but because it's the right thing to do! As a man, I understand we all go through problems and we have to work through them. Most guys like myself having played football competitively would cherish going to work everyday in the NFL. But for Mr. Haynesworth it's been an up-hill battle, it's baffling to think especially for a guy with his talent and ability. At the end of the day, I wish him the best and hope he finds his way and re-writes the story of his career.

Wholesome Wednesday! "Be careful...."

Wholesome Wednesday!

Throughout life we all have heard some form of the saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." Moreover, as human beings we have an important organ that we use to utter our thoughts, feelings, and emotions towards one another called the tongue. The human tongue is indeed a fascinating piece of work that God created. The way in which we use our tongues and the words that come out of our mouths, can potentially help or hurt those we express ourselves towards. As a kid, I use to get a kick out of hearing grown folks curse especially my mom. My mother had a way of using foul language in a manner that was very cogent! Nonetheless, she was as convincing when it came to speaking words of wisdom. I always wondered why she'd say "Be careful of what you say" or "watch your tongue when you speak." Today, I understand why she said such things like that!

As stated above, the words we speak can potentially help or hurt someone including ourselves. When the words we speak constantly reflect a negative connotation they eventually begin to reflect our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. The same is true when our words reflect a positive connotation. Therefore, as the great motivational classic by James Allen suggested, "As a man thinketh so is he." Furthermore, as human beings we must always be mindful of how we speak and react towards one another. Because "big momma," said it best "if you can't say nothin' nice, then don't say nothin' at all."

The beauty of human interaction is, that it gives us the opportunity to express ourselves with one another in a variety ways positively or negatively. From a spiritual perspective the same holds true. From the begining of creation God has always used the power of the tongue to speak life or death into His creation. Whether it was Him speaking himself, through one of the prophets (PBUT), or through Jesus (PBUH) the tongue was the central tool of His divine communcation to all mankind. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that "The tongue has power over life and death..." Furthermore, as believers in Almighty God our duty towards one another is to always speak life.

We should always value the opportunity to communicate in a positive manner with one another. Because it is another opportunity to share God's love with your fellow man. When we express His love towards each other it manifest His glory and presence evermore. The above is extremely important in today's culture of, verbally bashing each other "at the drop of a hat." God's love is not always openly expressed today and it makes people weary and unhopeful in the world we live in. So, as I close, remember to be careful of your tongue and let God's Word shape your words! -Glory Be to God!

Total Tuesday! What are you totally sold out for?

Many of us go through life never obtaining the things we truly desire whether it's a need or a want. I always hear people at times including myself saying things like "if I was rich, I'd do this or that," "I wish I'd hit the lottery, so I can...," and "if I had a better job, I'd..." These type of statements have led me to believe we often get the things we want mixed up with the things we need. Perhaps this is so, is because we tend to believe that our wants are a "cure-all" for the things we need. When in fact the opposite is true from my point of view. I believe, you get what you need first then get what you want second. In other words, "First deserve then desire."

Moreover, seeking the desires that we truly want versus seeking the desires we truly need can ultimately hender us if we don't have our priorties straight. For example, I need health, wealth, clothing, and shelter but I want a Maybach and a 100 foot yacht. If I buy the car and the yacht first but my health is in question or I go into debt because I'm living beyond my means. What does that say about my priorties? Of course there's nothing wrong with having great material possessions but they are not the things that truly substain me.

There are times in life, when circumstances pop up that are out of and in our control which hender us from reaching our true desires. In life, it is obviously difficult to control a situation that is out of our control and not allow it to effect us. Now, there's indeed a problem when we allow circumstances that we have a handle on stop us from reaching our desires. Personally, I tend to believe it's because we're not "totally sold out" for the type of lifestyle we truly want to live. Regardless, if it's having finacial security, your dream career or car, or spiritual bliss. One must ask him/herself daily, "am I truly doing all I can to achieve the lifestyle I deeply desire." If you can answer that question honestly then you are on the right track. If not, then you'll be the one still wishing "if I only had..." The one thing that Russell Simmons, Oprah, Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Farrah Gray seem to have in common is; they all are "totally sold out," for the type of lifestyle that they lead. So, I ask again: What are you totally sold out for?

I'll close with a few quotes from some insightful friends of mine that sum up Total Tuesday much better than I could have!

Realizing how short life truly is & how much of it we waste on things and people that aren't worthy. It's like wheat & a pare. They are identical as they grow but it is not until after they are fully developed that you realize the difference as the pare sucks the ground dry & the wheat nourishes everything around it. ...Eat your Wheaties beautiful people! :-) -Aricka Spencer

Religious Gang Bangers!

Why do people concern themselves over other's religious affiliations??? "One's religious beliefs should be their own personal business at the end of day," as Kenny Gamble of Gamble and Huff fame stated but since we live in a society that wants to know all of your darn business these days let's speak on it!!! Historically, Indigenous and Native people have always had a close connection to a Higher Being or Creator, regardless of the name in which they use to refer to this Divine presence.

Without going to deep into historical and scriptural study, I'll keep it simple.  For a long period of time throughout history, there was a respect for one's beliefs, traditions and, or culture among the Indigenous people of the earth. To put it in "urban slang" terms--the Indigenous people of the earth didn't "hate," "set trip," "playa hate," or "demonstrate" on others beliefs, traditions, and, or culture. Where did that go??? Of course there are many valid theories as to why we "hate" on one another's religious beliefs today but as I said above I won't go that deep today. :-)

Fast Forward to the 21st Century... I was at a lecture while in college in Portland, Or where Student Min. Tony Muhammad of the Nation of Islam gave an account of a meeting he and other religious leaders of various faiths had with the street/gang organizations in Los Angeles to bring peace in the streets. He told of how one of the brothers from the "Crips" gang stood up and gave a very poignant account.  I'll paraphrase his words here... He said "I've heard all that you folks have said today but to my understanding ya'll have some conflict among yourselves as religious leaders. Ya'll don't get along with each other because you all are of different religion's!!!  And you all want us to bring the peace and stop the killing in the streets but ya'll are fighting among each other just like us.  How are the men of God in conflict? Ya'll ain't no different than us--ya'll ain't nothin' but Religious Gang Bangers!!!'"

Sidebar: Today, we've stooped so low as a society that we are burning each other's Holy Books.  ‎9/11 hurt us all deeply and we will never forget those who perished but this "Religious Gang Banging" must cease now! Furthermore, I wonder if Pastor Jones and any of his members are in the Masonic Order? If so, all I will say is "Peace Be Upon You!" Those of you in The Light know what I mean!!! -Sept 2010

Matter Monday! No matter what...

Throughout life our experiences become the catalyst that shape our perception or reality of the world. The uniqueness of the human family is that no two people think and see things alike all the time. We have varying degrees of opinions, concerns, ideas, and beliefs; and in most cases those differences are what stimulates the ever changing world we live in. The diversity of human beings, is indeed a fascinating phenomenon!

In the scientific world that phenomenon is attributed to varying theories such as creationism and evolutionism. Both offer a curious insight into the history of the universe, human advancement and why we do things the way we do. In the short 36 years, that I have been on the planet I could never embrace one over the other because I believe they both offer different degrees of validity. Now some of you might question me as a believer in the Bible about; how can I not fully embrace the account of creation in Genesis, as it is the literal word of God? My short answer would simply be as the late great rapper Tupac Shakur exclaimed "Only God can judge me." The old time Gospel classic by the late great Rev. James Cleveland also comes to mind "Please be patient with me God is not through with me yet."

Moreover, my in depth analysis of both theories have been shaped by my ongoing study and understanding of the subject matter, by which I claim not to be a scholar of but only an "attentive observer," in which I am with all information that I seek insight about. However, I do know that there is a big difference between perception versus reality. Of course we can say both are subjective to some degree. But for me it's as simple as the "Universal Law of Cause and Effect." For example, it is sufficient to say that everyone knows watermelons grow from watermelon seeds and pears from pear seeds. If I attribute the opposite to what has been stated as fact, then my perception of that fact has altered my reality. Because we know that it is impossible for pear seeds to produce watermelons and watermelon seeds to produce pears. Moreover, for me and my beliefs, "the cause is just as real as the effect!" And im my humble opinion there is no subjection in that.

In closing, the beauty of God is, that we are able to use our mental faculty to become conscious of Him and His presence even though He is not physically seen. Which I might add, is why He sent Jesus (PBUH)in the world! (Heb 2:10,14) Furthermore, when we open our hearts and minds to Him who is the "Lord of the worlds," we become more aware of our existence in totality. So no matter what others may perceive of our differences--please keep in mind that we all are created by the Author of creation. And that He is the final Arbitrator of all mankind! -Thank God, Indeed Amen!

"If you know that God’s hand is in everything, you can leave everything in God’s hands." -D.C. McCasland

Scriptural Support:

He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God." -Joshua 4:24 NKJV

And David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Please let me fall into the hand of the LORD, for His mercies are very great; but do not let me fall into the hand of man.” -1 Chr 21:13 NKJV

this Ezra came up from Babylon; and he was a skilled scribe in the Law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given. The king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him. -Ezra 7:6 NKJV

On the first day of the first month he began his journey from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him. -Ezra 7:9 NKJV

and has extended mercy to me before the king and his counselors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. So I was encouraged, as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me; and I gathered leading men of Israel to go up with me. -Ezra 7:28 NKJV

But God is the Judge! He puts down one and lifts up another.
For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup [of His wrath], and the wine foams and is red, well mixed; and He pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth must drain it and drink its dregs. -Psalm 75:7-8 AMP

And all those who heard them kept them in their hearts, saying, “What kind of child will this be?” And the hand of the Lord was with him. -Luke 1:66 NKJV

But we are able to see Jesus, Who was ranked lower than the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because of His having suffered death, in order that by the grace (unmerited favor) of God [to us sinners] He might experience death for every individual person. For it was an act worthy [of God] and fitting [to the divine nature] that He, for Whose sake and by Whom all things have their existence, in bringing many sons into glory, should make the Pioneer of their salvation perfect [should bring to maturity the human experience necessary to be perfectly equipped for His office as High Priest] through suffering. -Heb 2:9-10 AMP

Since, therefore, [these His] children share in flesh and blood [in the physical nature of human beings], He [Himself] in a similar manner partook of the same [nature], that by [going through] death He might bring to nought and make of no effect him who had the power of death--that is, the devil--And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives. -Heb 2:14-15 AMP

And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord. -Acts 11:21 NKJV

(All) people are a single nation; so Allah raised prophets as bearers of good news and as warners, and He revealed with them the Book with truth, that it might judge between people in that in which they differed; and none but the very people who were given it differed about it after clear arguments had come to them, revolting among themselves; so Allah has guided by His will those who believe to the truth about which they differed and Allah guides whom He pleases to the right path. -Holy Quran 2:213

There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has become clearly distinct from error; therefore, whoever disbelieves in the Shaitan and believes in Allah he indeed has laid hold on the firmest handle, which shall not break off, and Allah is Hearing, Knowing. -Holy Quran 2:256

Say: O Allah, Master of the Kingdom! Thou givest the kingdom to whomsoever Thou pleasest and takest away the kingdom from whomsoever Thou pleasest, and Thou exaltest whom Thou pleasest and abasest whom Thou pleasest in Thine hand is the good; surety, Thou hast power over all things. -Holy Quran 3:26

And follow what is revealed to you and be patient till Allah should give judgment, and He is the best of the judges. -Holy Quran 10:109

Are You Strong Enough? If so, then Sing aloud...

Strength Sunday!  Most of us throughout our lives have heard the sayings "there's nothing new up under the sun" and "God doesn't put more on you than you can handle."  But how many of us know that those quotes are paraphrased from biblical scriptures (Ecc 1:9, 1 Cor 10:13).  I know for myself that I don't always associate those quotes with the Bible.  But nonetheless, what those two quotes represent for me is; as human beings life will always present us with "positives and negatives," "hi's and low's," "up's and down's" or "peaks and valleys," question is "how do we respond those circumstances when life presents them to us.

Today, we know we live in a world that has many facets to it and that it encompasses a multitude of elements. Nonetheless, when we think about how one survives in a world like this we automatically think of "strength." In life, when we see those among us with great physical and mental strength like the Incredibile Hulk or motivational guru Tony Robbins.  We see that person as extraordinary and in many cases they are!  However, we don't always see the circumstances that may have gotten them there and how they responded to those circumstances. Therefore, life's "up's and down's" and how we respond to them ultimately will shape the direction of our lives. Furthermore, there is a direct correlation between life and its circumstances and one's reaction to those circumstances.  In other words, you can't live life with out going through something! And as my mother use to say "just keep livin" and "everybody's got a turn."  WOW!  I truly understand what she was saying now!

Possessing great physical and mental strength is an extraordinary asset for one to have no doubt.  Moreover, it is not easily obtained, it is usually gained through much experience that brings about both joy and pain.  Hence the R&B soul classic "Joy and Pain," by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. In life truth is, we must expect to go through something in order to get to where we are going to.  Which means we must be thoroughly prepared to face the circumstances of life so that we can be successful.  Now, you and I both know that this is easier said than done for most of us. But in my humble opinion this is where we as human beings have to step out of the physical and mental realm of "strength" and into the spiritual realm of "strength, or as some would say the "Supernatural.".

Having said that let me just say, possessing great physical and mental strength coupled with God's strength becomes are our ultimate ally (To place in a friendly association, as by treaty; To unite or connect in a personal relationship, as in friendship or marriage) against the adversaries of this world.  When truly understanding what Daivd the Psalmist wrote that "Ye are gods, and all of you are children of the Most High" (Psalm 82:6).  We learn that God has declared that we are "little gods" and that we have extradordinary "strength" over the "hi's and low's" of this world when we are thoroughly prepared (James 1:2-4,12) and united with Him!

God will not allow a Believer to be tempted beyond what he or she can bear or handle and it does not suggest that He is the source of the temptation or trial either.  (James 1:13) says, "Don't blame God when you are tempted! God cannot be tempted by evil, and he doesn't use evil to tempt others." So God does not bring problems on us.  He is not the source of the trials we may face, but He does allow us to be tried, and as the scriptures explain, "He will help us, if we rely on Him."

So with that let us remember to "Sing aloud unto God our strength; make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob." (Psalm 81:1 21KJV)

Scriptural Support

Sing aloud unto God our strength; make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob. -Psalm 81:1 21KJV

I have said, "Ye are gods, and all of you are children of the Most High." -Psalm 82:6 21KJV

Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, `I said "Ye are gods"'? -John 10:34 21KJV

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. -Ecc 1:9 NIV

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. -1 Cor 10:13

What then shall we say of these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay anything to the charge against God's elect? It is God who justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ who died, yea rather, who is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword. As it is written: "For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 8:31-39 21KJV

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. -1 John 4:4 21KJV

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. -James 1:2-4 NIV

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. -James 1:12-14 NIV

Allah does not impose upon any soul a duty but to the extent of its ability; for it is (the benefit of) what it has earned and upon it (the evil of) what it has wrought: Our Lord! do not punish us if we forget or make a mistake; Our Lord! do not lay on us a burden as Thou didst lay on those before us, Our Lord do not impose upon us that which we have not the strength to bear; and pardon us and grant us protection and have mercy on us, Thou art our Patron, so help us against the unbelieving people. -Holy Quran 2:286

The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, -Holy Quran 53:5-6

Blessed is He in Whose hand is the kingdom, and He has power over all things, Who created death and life that He may try you -- which of you is best in deeds; and He is the Mighty, the Forgiving, -Holy Quran 67:1-2

Therefore endure with a goodly patience. -Holy Quran 70:5

Thorough Thursday! When are you gonna "face the music?"

In life we go through many ups and downs and as human beings we are bound to make many mistakes. However, there comes a time when we must pay close attention to the life that we are living. Of course when one's life is filled with strife and choas there is need for adjustment (harmony). But even if one's life is not filled with strife and choas there is always a need for adjustment. Harmony is the objective regardless if we face difficulties or not. I say there's always room for more harmony in one's life! Moreover, the diligent undertaking of making an adjustment in one's life is not always an easy task to accept or complete.

As humans beings when we face criticsim in life, it is sometimes a hard pill for us to swollow. Especially when that criticsim cuts us at our very core. We have trouble in "facing the music," or "looking at ourselves in the mirror," when are faults have been exposed. When we do decide to deal with the details of a particular shortcoming; please note that it may bring us to a very uncomfrontable place in the matter. However, that is the begining of the process towards adjustment (harmony) for us. One should embrace the idea of having to be thorough because it allows us to master that in which has caused us pain and moves us towards perfect harmony in our lives.

In the spiritual realm we have "perfect (thorough) peace," in our Heavenly Father. Because He is the Author of Life who loves us deeply, He gives us His "perfect peace" (Ps 46:10, 119:64). God's peace is thorough in that it is sufficent for our every need. We allow God's harmony to enter into our lives when we "face the music," that He is the very detail that we must pay strict attention to at all times. Church folk say it like this "I gotta keep my mind stayed on the Lord at all times..." (Is 26:2-4). We must never forget why the Lord Jah(God) sent us His Son Yeshua (PBUH) as a reminder of His glory, in that he Isa (PBUH) is the "Prince of Peace" over this world no matter what Shatan offers us. Which reminds us as followers of The Almighty God to be always be at "perfect (thorough) peace" in Him and keep watch for His return. (Is 13:9)

In closing, Yah (God) continues to show us His "perfect peace" in many ways everyday in spite of our shortcomings, He offers us His perfect haramony everyday and when we accept His complete harmony into our lives, we begin to master the life that He has given us on this earth. So our shortcomings become things of the past (1 Cor 13:9-12) and we turn face to face to Him, which in turn sets up for the life in heaven above that He has promised us. To God be the Glory always!, -Bro. Lamon

Scriptural refrences:

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! -Ps 46:10 NKJV

The earth is filled with your love, O LORD; teach me your decrees [a formal and authoritative order, esp. one having the force of law: one of the eternal purposes of God, by which events are foreordained (predestine)]. -Ps 119:64 NIV

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. -Is 9:5 KJ21

See, the day of the LORD is coming—a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger—to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. -Is 13:9 NIV

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever, for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength. -Is 26: 2-4 KJ21

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; but then shall I know, even as also I am known. -1 Corinthians 13:9-12 KJ21

For our knowledge is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect), and our prophecy (our teaching) is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect). But when the complete and perfect (total) comes, the incomplete and imperfect will vanish away (become antiquated, void, and superseded). When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; now that I have become a man, I am done with childish ways and have put them aside. For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection [of reality as [a]in a riddle or enigma], but then [when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand [b]fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been [c]fully and clearly known and understood [[d]by God]. -1 Corinthians 13:9-12 AMP

Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. -2 Corinthians 13:11 NIV

And this is the path of your Lord, (a) right (path); indeed We have made the communications clear for a people who mind. They shall have the abode of peace with their Lord, and He is their guardian because of what they did. -Holy Quran 6:126-127

And if they incline to peace, then incline to it and trust in Allah; surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. -Holy Quran 8:69

And Allah invites to the abode of peace and guides whom He pleases into the right path. -Holy Quran 10:25

O you who believe! turn to Allah a sincere turning; maybe your Lord will remove from you your evil and cause you to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, on the day on which Allah will not abase the Prophet and those who believe with him; their light shall run on before them and on their right hands; they shall say: Our Lord! make perfect for us our light, and grant us protection, surely Thou hast power over all things. -Holy Quran 66:8

Wonderful Wednesday!

This day and everyday for that matter is yours and mines to make a CHOICE! Each day gives us an opportunity to be and achieve excellence. No matter what your daily endeavors consist of and no matter what your circumstances maybe there is always an opportunity for us to be excellent if we chose to. The process of life gives way to many forms of adversity and even through lifes adversities we have chance to be excellent. The more we strive for the goal of excellence we put ourselves in a position to have more abundance. Life tends to rewards those beyond measure when they seek a high quality of living.

From a spiritual perspective this happens when we establish a complete relationship with God and utilize the blueprint that has been set forth through the scriptures. We must always take into account the plan or goal The Creator has for our lives. We all have gifts that are to be cultivate so that they give way to His glory! We please God when we strive to be excellent because we are essentially striving to be obedient to Him. And when we are obedient, we exalt His divine authority and protection (blessings) over our lives. Bottom-line is the excellence that in which we approach God with sets us up to be in complete submission to His will for our lives. So, let us rejoice that He is The everlasting God (EL-OLAM) and be excellent! All Praises be to God indeed!

Quotes on excellence:

And when you discover what you will be in your life, set out to do it as if God Almighty called you at this particular moment in history to do it. don't just set out to do a good job. Set out to do such a good job that the living, the dead or the unborn couldn't do it any better.

If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well. If you can't be a pine at the top of the hill, be a shrub in the valley. Be be the best little shrub on the side of the hill.

Be a bush if you can't be a tree. If you can't be a highway, just be a trail. If you can't be a sun, be a star. For it isn't by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are.

— From the estate of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Streetsweepers excellence: "That’s the excellence that we all search for in everything we do. It’s truly work dedicated to God." "Any job or task done with excellence demonstrates the high calling of our daily work." -Howard E. Butt Jr.

The benchmark of greatness is finding love and joy in serving others. -Dr. Cornel West

Life is more fullfilling when strive for a high quality of excellence it provides us with an opportunity to live greatly. -L.P. Caldwell II

All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. (Duet 28:1-3 NIV)

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24 NIV)
